"Do battle with monsters, not your math teacher"
Flashcards are boring. Swordfights are exciting! Medieval Math Battle is one way of reconciling these absolute truths, giving your young student an opportunity to practice basic math skills and defeat bad guys at the same time.
In order to save the kingdom from the invading spiders, bandits, and skeletons, you'll have to take them on in head-to-head battle. Give the correct answer to the equation on the bottom of the screen as quickly as you can to score maximum damage. Think fast, because they'll bite back! Use potions to give yourself an attack boost or to replenish your health. Win enough battles and you'll gain sufficient XP and coins to unlock upgrades in weapons and armor in Ye Olde Shoppe.
Detailed results from the battle practice are available for viewing in the "Report Card" section. Only addition practice is included with the free app. Subtraction, multiplication, and division are all purchasable within the app itself.
One snag I would be concerned about as a parent with this app is that it's very easy to accidentally access the app store if you're playing around with expensive items in the Shoppe. Supposedly you can disable this option, but kids these days are pretty technology-wise, and that flaming sword is awfully tempting. Another issue is that, while certainly more graphically interesting than drilling flashcards, playing Medieval Math Battle is significantly slower than tangibly working your way through written material. Your child might end up spending more time and reviewing less math.
SpinFall's Medieval Math Battle is a decent attempt at dressing up daily math practice in an attractive suit of armor.
