exfm is a social music discovery app for iOS that helps you find and listen to songs based on recommendations from friends and like-minded music fans.
The principle of exfm is based around tagging songs that you like. The app offers an endless stream of music in the same way that Spotify or Last.fm does. When you hear a song you like you can 'Note' it and it will be instantly shared with your exfm followers.
You can search for your friends and follow them to see what they're listening to or check out the 'Tastemakers' section where you'll find the hottest tunes doing the rounds at the moment. It all might so a bit confusing but the introductory screens of exfm will help you get an idea of what the app is all about. The clear, elegant design of the interface also helps to make exfm's various features and functions very easy to follow.
Besides listening to music noted by others, exfm allows you to listen to your own iPod music library. The app even scrobbles your plays to Last.fm in real time.
The ability to share what you're listening to to Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr helps to make exfm a truly revolutionary social music application and one that deserves to have a lot of success. The great thing is that the app will only get better as the community expands.
On the downside, there's no way to actually search for songs and artists using exfm - it's purely based around recommendations (it's not possible to recommend tunes you're listening to on your iPod either). exfm still has a few bugs and we experienced some crashes during our tests.
Overall though, exfm is a terrific tool for discovering and listening to great music. It's already up there with Spotify, SoundHound and Last.fm as one of the best music discovery apps for iOS.
